I brought the 8x10 camera, prints and memories of a residency at Navasota to a meeting of Panhandle Shutterbugs. I gave a quick history of Deardorff Cameras, and how I acquired the one that I use. I answered questions about the large-format process.
Amarillo nurtured my creative path. It’s where I ordered my first view camera, assembled a darkroom and viewed towns in the Texas Panhandle: A Place Called Happy. It’s where I made friends and received two enlargers. However, I left and said goodbye.
The generosity that I experienced waited as I went from Austin to Navasota to West Texas, and it felt encouraging seeing everyone. Remember, if there’s something you want to do in life and can, do it today.
