SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The art deco exterior of the Mission Drive-in Theater towers toward a twilight sky. From Roosevelt Avenue, motorists see a large mural of Mission San Jose outlined with white neon lights. The lettering glows red, and the marquee says, “theater closed in the winter, reopen in spring.” Where vintage cars once parked, grass grows in front of a new projection booth. The new Mission Library building rests on the right. In the distance, beyond a stand of trees, Old Mission San Jose marks time as its bells chime.
