Navasota, Texas, 2017 - Silver rails enter the downtown, crossing signals stand alert, and brick buildings anchor the avenue. Motorists traverse the tracks. New trees and street lights refresh the sidewalks. People stroll, visit the post office and enter the local shops. A new clock tower looms large. In the shade, we find a place to sit. The trains are magnificent here.
Many small towns have lost their charm. People either move to pursue new opportunities elsewhere or the cities absorb the countryside. However, Navasota remains quaint, warm and personable. In a world undergoing tremendous social and technological change, these photographs simultaneously appreciate life at the local level and record an important moment in time.
